A UMA faculty member who lived in Mississippi prior to moving to Maine, survived Hurricane Katrina but lost nearly all of her possessions in the storm.
She chose a photograph of her car surrounded by debris. Though seemingly fine on the exterior, the interior of the car was completely covered in mold and seaweed.
She wrote of her anxious thoughts at the time, "There has to be something I can salvage, something that remains."
On the lower right is a fragment of the piece, "A Drift," which was installed in an adjacent part of the gallery.
